The Wandering Moose Ranch, Libby, Montana

We've spent almost two weeks at Grandpa Switzer's Wandering Moose Ranch in Libby, Montana. (Some of you may know him as Mike Switzer - Original Recipe.)
We have been very busy fishing, gold panning, playing golf, working on the ranch, and hiking, biking and four-wheeling in the hills around the ranch. We enjoyed coming to town regularly to try the various coffee shops. The MK Steakhouse out in the country was very good also. We visited Kootenai Falls, Lake Kookanusa, Kalispell, Glacier Wilderness Resort, Eureka, Troy, Yaak Falls and most of Lincoln County, Montana. Shelby got to shoot all of Grandpas guns. She chopped down rhubarb and made some delicious rhubarb pies. And she and Maggie particularly enjoyed trout fishing in the ponds and river on Grandpa's ranch. Shelby cleaned her own fish and Maggie fried them up...delicious!
The new name of Grandpa's ranch came from the many wandering moose sightings on his property while we were here. Mike and Grandpa played golf one day in Libby with Grandpa's 78-year-old cowboy friend Don. Don lives southern California but comes to Troy, Montana from June to November. Grandpa and Don share ownership of an ancient Harley Davidson golf cart. Grandpa bought a house on the golf course while we were here. We have been helping him get ready to move which he should be doing in just a couple of weeks. His ranch is for sale for $1.3 million...anybody interested? When he moves, he'll be in town and much closer to everything he needs. The last night in Libby, we went to town and played pool and video poker, where Maggie won $7.25!
We'll miss the ranch but will always enjoy coming back to Libby and visiting with Grandpa! More thumbnails ...

Remembering Warren and Rose Brown (reply) Jul 4, 2008 02:55 EST by mswitzer37
Hi Mike McCain, We might have met in Libby as Kids. Do you remember a Jim or Jimmie Switzer who lived just two blocks over on 1011 Main Ave from where Rose amd Warren lived.
That's what they called me way back then. I lived there with my folks Elmer Jr and Edna, but left at age 17 to join the USAF In 1955. So like my son Michael has figured, yes we are relatives. my email address is mswitzer... show all

I believe we are related. My dad's father was Elmer, Jr. and his grandfather was Elmer, Sr. I believe Lela was Elmer Sr.'s sister. So you must be my Dad's 2nd cousin and therefore my 3rd cousin.
Does that sound right?

I try to check out things pertaining to Libby because as a child I spent much time in the summers there with my Uncle and Aunt, Rose and Warren Brown.
My grandmother's name was Lela Switzer Brown. She had three brothers: Elmer,Earl, and Esmond.
Lela's father was Thomas and I think that he might have been Libby's second mayor.
Have a wonderful trip
