This weekend we had 'Folk By The Oak’, which was a one day folk festival in the grounds of Hatfield House. I love these kinds of events where you can just lay back on a lazy, hazy summer day and let the music wash over you. That wasn’t quite the case with this one – it started innocently enough, a bit cloudy, which was okay and we enjoyed various artists such as The Shee, Chris Wood, Lau and Kate Rusby – along with others - but then the rain came down and I don’t mean softly, it came down in sheets, there was even some thunder and lightening which half cleared the field. The hardy amongst us threw on our wet weather gear, wrapped ourselves up in blankets and put the umbrellas up. It was still very enjoyable.
The future – well, we’ve come to somewhat of a crossroads in life. A long time ago we devised ‘Plan A’, which has meant that for the last two years we have been saving to go round the world for 3 months. I approached this with my manager at work two years back to see if he was okay with it – and he was, so that is what we have been working towards. However, now that its getting closer – i.e. next year, our HR department have got involved and whilst they haven’t actually said no yet, there has been doubt cast over it and they have started to put a few obstacles in our way already. The thing is, not doing it is no longer an option for me and John, its been something we’ve spoken about for so long now and what was once a dream has turned into a reality for us – as in we cannot begin to imagine not doing some form of extended travel now. After the first delivery of negative feedback from HR last week, we started to formulate ‘Plan B’ and ‘Plan B’ actually looks so attractive to us, that we started thinking how it would be a shame not to go with it – whatever HR come back and say. So, right now ‘Plan B’ has been promoted to the new ‘Plan A’. My head is spinning at the moment – in a good way. We’ve got a few things to iron out first though, so for now I leave you with that.
