Flag of Malta  , Island of Malta,
Saturday, February 28, 2009

Another leisurely start to the day and then we amble over to Mosta. Mosta is most famous for the Rotunda - which is a huge circular shaped church, boasting the third largest unsupported dome in the world. It's very easy to find since it can be seen for miles as you are driving around.

There isn't really a great deal in Mosta other than the Rotunda, so after looking around that we follow a sign pointing up some stairs which indicated we could get coffee and the like up there - it did indeed lead to a café, so we sat overlooking the Mosta Dome and had a drink.

After this we make our way into a nearby town and park up. We are approached by a random man who seems to be asking for money to park - I didn't believe for a second he was any type of parking official, as all parking on the island so far has been free. John seems willing to pay him though and he starts flashing a badge around and asking me if I'd rather they put pay machines up? On closer inspection of said badge it actually had 'beer belly' written on it, so I was right he was no more a parking attendant than I was.

Anyway, we walk off into town and find a pizzeria to have lunch at - we haven't had pizza since we've been here, but with the islands proximity to Italy, there are large numbers of pizzerias around, so we select one that is tucked away at the back of a courtyard and enjoy the tastiest pizzas we've had in a long time.

Once we get back to the car, we decide to just head off into the countryside again and see where we end up. As we are driving along we see a sign to Dingli - the same Dingli that we spent a couple of hours driving round unsignposted lanes the other day trying to find. "Oh no, not Dingli again" I say - John says "don't worry, we wont find it anyway" - within 2 minutes there was a sign saying 'Welcome to Dingli', it made us both laugh a lot, when we're not looking for it, we find it!!! Then there was a sign to Dingli Cliffs, which was also what we were looking for the other day, we take one turn and there we are - as easy as that, we just stumbled across them. After investing so much time the other day in search of them, it would have been rude not to have a look, so we park the car up and have a walk along the top. I was glad that we had eventually found them, but in truth they were not particularly impressive.

After this we head back North again stopping en-route for another ice-cream milkshake, before making our way back.
