Jakarta Layover
I took silverbird (more expensive but worth not being held up at knifepoint, i think) and directed the cab in very poor Indonesian and made it safely to Manoah's office. From there, headed to Air Niugini office to pay for my plane ticket to PNG - they really don't make it easy to pay with credit card here. You have to pay in person, w/ 3% charge for creditcard, then a horrific conversion rate from $ into rupiah, which will then just get converted back to US$ by my credit card co, who will charge me another fee. yay! It was a game time decision - but I'll still save money in the end vs. transferring money through western union. Got allergic to street nasi goring that night - took Benadryl and passed out.
Singapore Layover
Special thanks to Clarence's family for taking me under their wing for the layover. Got tatsy hokka food and my first home cooked meal this trip at their house. Got my typhoid shot from while watching Clarence's wedding videos haha. Manoah said that Singapore prides itself on doing everything Indonesia can't - and the airport is a prime testament: Free internet kiosks, foot massage chairs, floral arrangements...if only I had an 8 hour layover HERE. My flight is populated almost entirely by men- unscrupulous looking Chinese, Indian & European businessmen. No tourists to this god foresaken country. Read the in flight magazine - wait, native PNG people look black? God, I am really unprepared...
