Kumasi is Ghana’s second biggest city and about a 3 hr drive from where I am. The car left site at 6 am – yuk. It was good to get out and see something different. The audit itself involved going to the main hazardous waste removal contractor yard. This was an eye opener. The contractors yard itself was ok, but driving to their workshop was a maze of streets thru the light industrial area where oil runs freely across open dirt and kids wander about thru the car wrecks and truck shops
I spent a few hours on Saturday arvo walking about the Resettlement Area. The first families have moved in over the weekend and were having a celebration – they are so happy (even tho construction still occurs around them each day). Makes me feel that I am working on a project that is making a difference to peoples lives. I’m sure that there are a lot who are negative about the whole resettlement process, but the net benefit is obvious when u compare their current living standards to the new.
I’m annoyed because I can’t charge my Nintendo 3DS here. I think it is the converter or something. My last option is to charge it with the car charger. But I am stoked that the Eagles beat Carlton. I look forward to waking up next Saturday morning and learning that we are into the Grand Final! On that note...
