What I did
touring and then back to work
I called a couple of shops on Monday to see if they were open, and because the subway had restarted that morning, everything was back on and the streets were packed
I flagged a cab easily out front of the apartment building. I’m sure the driver took me on the scenic route to JFK airport cause it was a bit over an hour before I arrived! We literally went through The Bronx to get there. The airport was pure madness. Apparently the domestic travellers had been diverted through the international terminal cause the domestic was flooded. For some reason I was calm in all the queues. I used to get stressed about missing flights, but now my theory is that if my bag is checked in and loaded on the plane, then they’ll try really hard to get me on the plane rather than search and remove my bag
So, I am writing this while on the journey from Accra to site (Wednesday). It is a public holiday which caught me by surprise. I will go into the office and do what I do for a while before going to the bar and catching up with everyone and then gratefully unpacking my stuff.
When someone returns from break and you ask "how was your break?", the answer that u receive 99% of the time is “too short”. I am not one of those people and never will be. I appreciate that time keeps on ticking and that I will make the most of every moment. Life is what u have, so make the most of it; live in the moment cause that is all we have. Don’t wish that u had more time because u never will. I’m glad that this holiday/break was the first that had no palaces or cathedrals!! The USA is not as bad as I suspected, people are nice, the places are clean, however it is the materialistic and commercial heart of the world that I knew it would be. I’m not into that. But, if life takes me back there, I will be happy to go. When I got off the plane they used the terms “be careful when deplaning” – seriously?? Americans just invent words and then speak them as if they were spoken by Queen Victoria and have always been a part of the English language.
On that note, it is time for me to get into rehab.
