Well, we've been working in Perth now for 6 weeks, but it's all over.
Lauz has gone off down the south coast with an irish couple we met as they were going to Ayers Rock and lauz hadn't been yet. So, we are meeting back up with her in a few weeks time to carry on to Tasmania and up the east coast back to Sydney.
So Mike and i decided to go over to Rottnest Island for a night. We booked a package that included return ferry from Fremantle, a nights accomodation in a hotel, a pizza, bottle of wine and discount vouchers on all the trips
There are some rather funny looking resident rodents on Rottnest, known as 'quokka's'. They're like half wallaby, half rat and extremely tame. They wonder around like they own the place and it's really wierd to be walking along and see these mini wallaby 'things' lurking around.
We went on a lighthouse tour and got to climb to the top, did a trip around the island. The island is only small - it's a 40km round trip. We would've hired bicycles to go around, but it rained the whole time. The coastal scenery is beautiful and clear. We had our pizza and I pulled amusing faces as I tried to drink some wine - yuk!
It was a nice little break for us, especially after working solid for 6 weeks!
So, we watched England controversially fall out of the world cup - I've never heard a pub so quiet in all my life, then complete uproar. Mike was ready to deck an ozzy lad as he waved and mouthed "bye, bye" to Mike when we left the pub. Ouch!
We have purchased another vehicle and she's a beaut! It's a mitsubishi magna - just a normal family size car, automatic. Pretty smooth runner and we got her from a garage rather than another traveller
We've been to Burwood casino a few times this week. Didn't win a lot. The best one night was $70 up on blackjack. We didn't lose any which was a bonus. I'm lucky that Mike is not another Steven Middle!!!
So, we leave for the rest of our trip tomorrow. We hope to see some whales as they migrate north into warmer waters from the Antarctic.
