I woke early on Friday morning to a wonderful sunrise over the river (Kaiserwerth was on the other side). The light looked more like a November morning in a Turner painting. I could see the ferry from my room and realised there wouldn't be much of a wait to cross over (I think I've crossed the Rhine six times now). I was wrong, and had to wait for 25 minutes and then set off into the stiff breeze. There are lots of wind-generators around, and it's quite depressing as a cyclist to see them all whizzing around pointing into the wind in the direction you're going!
I had to shelter from the rain for a while on the waterfront in Dusseldorf, and then headed off towards Koln, this time crossing the river on a high bridge. (I'm not good with heights and it was quite frightening with the wind, too.)
It stayed relatively dry through the afternoon, and after stopping for a rest in the shadow of the Cathedral in Cologne I headed off aiming for Bonn, but the winds were so strong that I was whacked when I reached Worringen and stopped there for the night.
