I overslept and the sun was already quite hot by the time I left the house, and panted and puffed my way up the hill – not the best thing to do when the body/legs need time to warm up! But I made it without pushing and at the top met a young chap picking blackberries. I welcomed the excuse to regain my breath and I discovered he was from Paris and has a small house in the village. We talked cycling for a couple of minutes and then I was on my way kicking myself that this was the first friendly neighbour I'd met… and I was leaving
However, I was soon distracted by the lovely ride across the plateau where I’d taken some photos earlier.
Coasting down towards Chailly, I thought I saw a couple of cyclists coming towards me, but getting closer I realized that it was a man with a donkey! A real king-of-the-road type.
We stopped and chatted for a while, and I discovered that he was on his way back to Strasbourg after walking the Camino de Santiago de Compostella. Made me realise how small my acheivments are !
I continued on the Pouilly where I had to go to the Gendarmeie to report the vandalism in the swimming pool and go to the Post Office (I’d discovered the previous evening that I’d inadvertently taken a set of bike keys which might be Theodora’s). I got to my sister’s an hour later where she was deluged by customers
