Left the waterways of Venice early, as we had a very important date with the Ferrari family. 
Such as BMW has a Welt ("world" in German).. Ferrari has itself a Universe all to its own... tucked behind the old gates is a world of Rosso. The factory is quiet, clean and the sight of all those beautiful engine parts that will become a Ferrari motor is breathtaking.

The road car production is amazing.  The working environment is more of a brand new hospital than any sort of factory one could imagine. The place has its own foundry, which produces the aluminum and the steel for the engines and the chassis.  The robots and computer programing of such resembles more of a military defense base.  The technology advancements for this company have been bountiful. We were lucky to tour the new production line / building now in service since January of this year. With 8 cylinders being made on the ground floor and 12's on floor two. Yes we saw a couple new 458 Italia's running around testing in preparation of production later this or early next year....  But we had seen nothing yet.

It is clear that no team, Porche, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, or anyone spends as much on racing technology as Ferrari. Remember, the road cars were conceived in 1947 as a necessary evil to feed the racing budget.  Well that explains why the cars cost so much.  The technology and the workings going on inside the F1 building can't be expressed. It must be seen. But with the same no photo rule as with the production I can't show you anything. (They actually have you visit the gallery/museum and encourage taking photos before the factory tour begin, whilst secretly taking notes, and then they actually take your cameras away from you before the tour begins...  wow.)

The F1 engine tech's are busy assembling motors from plans that are covered up by workers once we, the tifosi, get to close.  The F1 Body shop has 3 new stalls.  These are the spots that the cars are race prepped, and repaired once the current race is run. One Stall for Alonso, one for Fisichella, and yes one for Massa...  Yes, he was here this day to inform all that he will be back next year, after recovering from his terrible accident. 3 drivers...  3 cars...  This will be an interesting 2010 campaign.

The FXX and retired F1 car works are as equally amazing as anything else. 26 of the 30 FXX's were in store waiting for the next private owner campaign. Including number 30, the last one built especially for Michael.

Another building holds the retired F1 single seaters. Dawn counted 50 in all. These are as new as 2007, as the 2008's have not been released to the public yet.  some privately owned and some for sale. Minimum price for one of these retired F1 machines, 1 Million Euro.  Ok...

This was truly a dream come true for me and I want to thank Dawn for letting me experience something like this in the middle of our honeymoon.
