This morning I decided to walk down to the dive shop to see if SH was working. I wasn't sure if we were doing our visa run together as we hadn't actually booked anything. He wasn't there because he had the day off, but the girl in the office kindly sent him a text message for me. She figured since he had the day off he would have been out drinking late last night and probably wouldn't reply for awhile. I went back to my bungalow and checked out then had a nice lunch with one of the guys I met diving. I walked back to the dive shop with him where he was going out to finish his rescue diver. While I was saying good-bye to him the office girl ran out and told me where to meet SH. When I found him he was half drunk and half hungover, covered in blood and missing large chunks of flesh from his arms, legs, and head. It turns out last night he mistook himself for Superman and thought he could fly over road barriers on his bike. He found out the hard way that it wasn't going to happen. As a result he is pretty banged up and walks with a severe limp.
The first thing we did after meeting up was go to the hospital, since last night in his drunken brilliance he just wrapped duct tape around his bleeding knee and went to bed. The nurses there, who knew him quite well, cut as much pavement as they could out of his road rash, cleaned it up and gave him some drugs. I suspect this is just another day for our diving Superman. After that we picked up his things, dropped off his blood-stained clothes at the cleaners, grabbed my pack and headed to the pier to catch the last boat of the day to Samui. It left the island at 3:00pm and we got there at 2:55. It was sold out because of the full moon party in Phangan. I thought we were stuck for the night but fortunately for me I was with a local who knows his way around! We raced across the street to the slower and cheaper boat that doesn't mind overselling its maximum capacity and managed to get on board just as the boat was preparing to leave.
We got to Samui and did what we do best - ate and drank - after finding a nice air conditioned bungalow on the beach. We had dinner on the beach at this nice restaurant but they were playing horrible music so we didn't stay there too long. It seems Cambodia is out. There are some complications coming back into Thailand sometimes that he doesn't want to risk. The current plan is to go to Malaysia tomorrow for our visa run.
