Last night Tom left me with the first batch of arrivals from the airport at a really good restaurant in Accra, called Venus. Everyone seemed to think I was the expert as I had the most Ghanaian experience in the group, having been there one entire day. We had a good time but the second set of arrivals didn't get to the restaurant to join us until close to 11pm. Tom, Peter, and the newbies managed to get a dinner order in though. We didn't stay long after they were finished their meals as we had to leave at 8am today.

We weren't too delayed getting started this morning given that there were so many of us and all women (except for the two drivers). We dropped everyone off at the little beach-side village where they would all be volunteering. Tom and I then continued on to Takoradi where I was meeting up with one of the owners of the lodge I was volunteering with.

We didn't wait long before the lodge owner, Tom, and two of his friends turned up. And I was off again. We picked up another new volunteer on the way, Annette, and then went to the lodge. The road from Takoradi is pretty sketchy and has massive pot holes and rocks everywhere. After about 30 minutes, my bladder just couldn't take it anymore. Tom kindly pulled off to the side of the road for me in a place where there weren't any nearby villages, as there are still a lot of people wandering in the area. I ran into the palm trees and hid myself from the road. Another passenger joined me, it turns out the water we had bought along the way didn't just get to me!

Back on the road and we were at the lodge in a short time. The drive was much more enjoyable after the wee stop. When we got to Green Turtle we quickly ordered lunch. It was the first time I ate today. Jo gave us our volunteer inductions and then introduced us to the only other volunteer there, Katherine, who already has a month under her belt. Katherine is also my roommate and we have a very nice but tiny A-frame cabin with two beds, a desk, and mosquito nets and not much else.

We didn't do much else today but had a delicious dinner before calling it a night. It gets dark very early here and there isn't a heck of a lot to do, which is probably why everyone gets up so early.
