Last night I visited Grandpa and told him about my night out with Andrew. He told me that I come from a long line of alcoholics. We also talked some more about traveling and he told me that the colours of Petra when the sun hits make the place absolutely magical. I wanted to go before, but now I have to!

This morning I was up before 5am to get a ride with Anne to Gatwick. Once I was there I waited for the shuttle to Heathrow, and then I had awhile to kill before my flight to Amsterdam. My flight was late which was a concern as the original flight schedule only gave me an hour in Amsterdam before my connecting flight to Accra. Luckily the flight to Accra was also delayed so it all worked out fine. I arrived in Ghana after dark. The sky was the deep black of an equatorial sky until we neared Accra, a sprawling city that lit up the night above it with its sporadically placed lights. I was met by a driver from my very nice hotel and was very happy to check in and see a very clean, comfortable room.

I met up with some volunteers on another project at the sports bar located right on my hotel's premises. Tom and Hannah were very good company and I had my first Ghanaian beer, Star. It was not bad and I was surprised to see I could also order a hamburger. I was starving from all the flying and picking at airplane food so it may have tasted better than it actually was, but it was not half bad!
