We arrived in Plymouth and were greeted by Josie and her cousin who drove us to St Dennis - a small village where Josie and her family live. (and their dog Timmy!)
On the first night, about 2 hours after arriving, Julia played with St Dennis band in a concert at Trewan Hall!! After 3 months of not playing this was an effort and a half! (They put me on solo cornet and my lips died about 12 bars into the first song!!) But after not playing for so long I was dying to get back into it!
The next day we drove to Padstow, a little fishing village. Here we shopped, enjoyed the sun, and had a tradition Yorkshire pasty for lunch followed by Yorkshire clotted cream ice cream! Yum.
We then went to see Bob - Josie's horse! He is so cute and like a giant puppy dog! (Very very friendly - a little too friendly for people scared of horses!)
That night we went out to dinner with our new family - Josie & her boyfriends Matt, Josie's brother Bart & his girlfriend Jo, Josie's mum Mel & partner Steve, and their family friends Mike & Carolyn and their kids Zoe & Dani. (These people were awesome and treated us like part of the family!! We spent most of the time with them all).
The next day we went to Newquey, another seaside town renowned for it's surf and nightlife! On the way home we drove througha number of other seaside towns. Thats when our camera broke (sorry you'll have to wait for the rest of the photos).
That night, after a delicious home made pasty, we went to St Dennis band rehearsal and Julia played again. I could not believe how many performances and rehearsals they have during the summer! The week we were there they played at Padstow on Sunday, Trewan Hall on Monday, Rehearsal on Wednesday, County Fair march on Friday and the Proms concert on Saturday!! It was awesome!!! Also what amazed me was the age of all the players. Most of them were between 11 and 20 and yet they sounded like an adult band!! (they even made a better sound than some aussie A grade bands!!) and the music they played was not easy!! Must just be the brass in their blood!!
On our last day we travelled with Mel, Steve, Carolyn, Mike and Dani to Land's end. (The furtherest point south in England.) Here we tried clotted cream fudge (YUM) and saw little pottery, leather and glass stalls. We also got our photo taken with the sign that said 'Cairns 20953'.
That night when we got back to St Dennis we went bowling with everyone! What a great way to finish off our stay. Thanks heaps Josie and family!
