I did enjoy the visits to the museums but it would of been a lot easier if I had a car. You could visit both sites in one day that way, and avoid the expensive nights in town and frustrating bus services. When I inquired at the tourist office about visiting the sites I was told that one could spend a whole day that the first place Villa El Chocon, but I was only there about 2 hours in the end and with an hour and 30 mins bus each way ended up being most of the day. Unfortunately also at Villa El Chocon I was hoping to see some dinosaur tracks that had been discovered by the lake shore, but the lake is part of a hydroelectric damn and there had been recent rain fall so the tracks were under water at the time I was there. They are about 2Km from the town so would have been a bit of a walk but do-able. They must be fairly large as, apparently locals used to use them as fire pits when having barbecues..
At Plaza Huincul once you have seen the big one thats all there is to do there, I was all visited out in about half an hour, but had to wait another hour for the bus back to Neuquen. Anyway, it was very interesting and to be in the area where the fossils and bones were found gave it a special resonance rather than just looking at them in a museum in the middle of a city somewhere far removed....
