3.5 Hours southeast of Huaraz is the small town of Chavin. The purpose of a visit here is to see a Temple ruin of the Chavin culture, thought to be Perus oldest culture 1300 - 400 BC. Concidering how old this place is and that it has survived flooding from the river and a major landslide which covered the entire site in 1945, there still remains quite a lot intact.
