After a long night and half a day of buses, yesterday I arrived at my first stop in Peru. Chiclayo. First impressions, well I started with a classic Frank Spencer, the cats done a whoopsi on the door step and followed it up with a Bruce Forsythe, anything for a pair? Not in this game...But seriously, where has all the vegetation gone? I left Ecuador lush and green and wake up in Peru in the middle of a desert (Hope I spelt that right, I mean a dry sandy place not ice cream and chocolate sauce). I am fairly near the coast here so maybe the mountains will provide the green and fertile land I have been accustomed to. I'll go have a look and let you know....
From here I took my first visit to one of the pre Inca ruins near to Chiclayo, called Sipan. At first view I had no idea what I was looking at, as the bus dropped me off outside what could only be described as a huge pile of sand. On closer inspection and a visit to the small museum on the site all became a lot clearer.
Most of the artifacts that were found at this site have been taken to the Muso Tumbas Reales de Sipan to the north of Chiclayo at Lambayeque. Unfortunately I didn't go there and it is supposed to be a world class museum. Doh! nice one..
