This has been a very quiet travel year compared to spending 5 months in Hawaii in 2012. We went on a scouting trip to Naples Florida in May to make sure we like it enough to spend more time there (and we do, more on that later.) A few local trips, and an unexpected trip to California for me. Needless to say we are dying to hit the road again!  I so miss the excitement of our adventures.

Staying put in Atlanta has allowed for some great local fun though!  I found some awesome homeschool activities for Mecca this year.  Lots of field trips and group activities. I must admit, I'm learning as well and schedule things I think we’d both be interested in.

Here are a few highlights (not necessarily in order.)

-An awesome science class taught by an aerospace engineer who designs the coolest projects for the kids to build.

-Dragon Con again this year.  Okay, maybe not homeschool related but definitely eye opening.

-Robotics club.

-A behind the scenes tour of the Georgia Dome.

-Gymnastics (She’s on the training team now. 11Alive featured her group on their morning broadcast along with other College Park organizations.)

-Educators Day at the World of Coca-Cola.  Mecca tasted Coke for the first time and loved it.

-Homeschool classes at the Georgia Aquarium.

-Monthly homeschool classes at Zoo Atlanta.

-A meeting with Mayor Kasim Reed with her robotics group in his downtown office.

-An aquatic study at Lake Lanier and visit to a water treatment plant.

-Hip hop and art classes.

-A day trip to Fort Benning army base.

-Build and Grow workshops at Lowes.

-Homeschool day at the Botanical Garden.

We’ve done plenty more, but you get the picture.  It’s been a blast.  We are winding down this year and looking forward to lots of travel in 2014.  Because we homeschool, the world is Mecca’s classroom (and mine too :).

Happy holidays and peace and blessings to you and your families!
