How many people can actually say they've been to a Pro Bowl Game in Hawaii?  The Pro Bowl is the all-star game for the National Football League.  It's the best football players from the National Football Conference and American Football Conference.  Well it just so happens that the Pro Bowl was today at Aloha Stadium and I wanted to go.  Thomas had something else in mind--he wanted to attend a cultural event at the Windward Mall.  I opted for what I felt was a once in my lifetime opportunity to attend the game.

I packed my day pack and headed for the bus.  I was excited about having some quiet time to read my book as I journeyed over the hill to the stadium.  Luckily I left early because it took me about 2 1/2 hours to get there.  I'm usually pretty good at finding tickets so I made my way through the crowd making eye contact with people and talking to the scalpers.  They wanted too much for their tickets so I hung out by the ticket booth for awhile.  No luck there.  Finally I walked down to the street and found a female scalper willing to sell a $130 ticket to me for $50.  That was still more than I wanted to pay for a game I really didn't care about.  I offered her $30 and she accepted.

I had a great seat in the shade 19 rows up from the field, sitting 2 rows behind Shaq!  Or at least I thought it was Shaq for about 5 minutes until I looked much closer.  It wasn't him, but a younger lookalike.  The stadium was full, not sold out, lots of music blasting, people cheering and doing the wave, and several tributes to the military.  Had I gone there to see competitive football, I would have been disappointed.  The players were not playing hard and made some questionable plays, but the Pro Bowl is a celebration.  So I celebrated and went home pleased that I had decided to go.  And I got to eat all of my shaved ice by myself, and watch a whole game with no one sitting on my lap. (Those with kids will get this part :))

Solo day trips can be fun... especially the part about not having to share any of your treats!
