Wed this week I went to visit Stirling with a couple other Arcadia kids, one of whom is in my NH class...both are from NU, and I had really met neither of them before coming here. Interesting world, isn't it? We took the train for about 5 pounds for the return trip (what a deal!) at about 10:30am. We arrived about 1 hour later, and went immediately to the castle. It is a beautiful castle perched on a volcanic plug where you can see some fields where William Wallace and Robert the Bruce fought for Scottish independence as well as the Wallace momument. There is a bit of comedy and history carved in the sculptures within the castle as well, and it is the site where Mary Queen of Scots was crowned at the age of 10 months. Some of it was under construction, so we didn't get to see everything, but we saw the grand hall, the courtyard, the weaving museum, and some of the replica tapestries, which took years to make! They really were amazing. The city itself was not huge, but I would say bigger than St. Andrews, and not as serene. I didn't have much time there because I had rugby training that night (which I was late to anyway despite my best efforts), but it was fun to take the midweek trip.

Stirling Examples!
Great pics and story - Even I can sense the history and almost feel the weight of the past, and how it has affected us and wher we are now.

Shame about Mary though. It's a shame she wasn't more headstrong.*

Not the way to get ahead in life you know.*

Now she'll nver get to be the head of a major country.*
