Janice is sitting in the seat occupied on the London-Singapore leg by Michael Buerk, ex-BBC. He was heading out on a cruise ship speaking tour and was allegedly "grumpy".
Nice man across the aisle hears about our trip and at the end of the flight presents us with 3 A4 pages of suggestions of things to do in Sydney and around.
At the airport, we have to declare that we have travelled in a rural area. Our boots are inspected and Janice's have to be washed. The shame. The weather is warm but compared with Asia, it is fresh and not humid.
Sydney Travelodge is good: simple but clean and with a little kitchen so we can make our own breakfast. Our room has been adapted for the disabled and has a huge bathroom.
Then down to Darling Harbour for pie and chips. Beautiful view looking back at the brightly lit office towers. Generally good atmosphere
