Walked round the old city of Chiang Mai, visiting various temples. When passing monks in the street, J has to be careful not to make physical contact and we both have to lower our heads reverentially.
Several people approached us to strike up conversations, rapidly coming round to the topic of selling us tours etc. There are a large number of travel agencies and tour companies, so clearly catering for the tourist is huge business. It was very hot: we had to return to our fairly central hotel several times to cool off. We felt as if we had walked a long way because of the heat but it was probably only 4-5 miles.
Sorted out some laundry by following some handpainted signs down a narrow alley and handing it over to a little lady. Ready beautifully folded a few hours later. Janice took the precaution of buying a light long sleeved shirt and a pair of long trousers as she continues to strive to outwit her arch enemy, The Mosquito.
A margarita each before dinner set us up for the evening as we steel ourselves for the cycle trip that begins tomorrow. Blog entries may be a bit sporadic for the next 10 days depending on internet access. You may or may not be disappointed.
