Left Siem Reap on Bangkok airways at lunchtime.
Had to pay more to get out of Siem Reap than we did to get in. ($25 each departure tax)
Turboprop plane
Arrived in Bangkok 55mins later.
Amazingly quickly through immigration
Taxi ride to hotel. Half way through the journey the driver had to stop to phone the hotel to find out where it was. The problem is that most Bangkok taxi drivers don't speak or read English so although he had smiled politely when his dispatcher had loaded us into the cab, he clearly hadn't understood a thing...
Stark contrast to the jungle and temples of previous days
Oncoming traffic = 5 lanes. Front row at traffic lights shared by 5 cars and 16 mopeds.....
Booking in - 31st floor of hotel.
The room has a panoramic view from a window that is the width of one wall, fluffy slippers and a shower so complicated that it took several minutes of stinging jets on the tender bits to work out the controls.
Walked to Thai restaurant in old colonial house. Lovely. Maniac tuktuk ride back after some haggling re price. Health and safety? Forget it.
Cultural notes
Dont lick stamps (image of King)
Keep both feet on the ground
