We're off! 12hr sleepless flight to Singapore arriving at just after midnight UK time, 8am local. Straight from the plane to Alistair and Morag's. We'd forgotten the wall of heat effect as you leave the aircon of the airport.
We slept for a couple of hours then went for a 10min walk to the Botanic Gardens past a house with at least 5 or 6 supercars parked outside: mainly Ferraris including one Enzo. Apparently owned by an electronics millionaire.
On past various embassies including the vast marble fortress-like Chinese edifice, stroll round the gardens then home. Desperately trying to stay awake. Great supper sitting out on their balcony then sleep...
Next day 3/10 we borrowed their bikes and pedalled into town.
Tonight we are going out to a Korean restaurant. Strange - you don't see many dogs in Singapore

Cycling in the 29 deg heat is pleasant until you come to a hill. Lunch at a restaurant whose menu offered things like pigs intestine soup, pigs kidney soup and something that appeared to be pigs skin. I had a spare rib soup... J had vegetarian. Comments
you were obviously very jet -lagged
Have just had a look at the trip so far and am worried that on the entry about jet lag, you think its already 3rd Nov! Works for us. It only seems like you've been gone a week!
It all looks fantastic. Lorretta suggests you book the next staff meeting over there.
Bye for now
Missing you already...............
hello at last
Finally managed to sit down and get onto your site....after losing the bit of paper! Photos look wonderful. Particularly liked those of Laos and the Mekong. All missing you...particularly Monday evening! Hope you're continuing to have a great time. Lots of love, Chris
Re: hello at last
Hi Chris. Laos seems a long time away from a wet and windy Dunedin. We thought of you lots when we were there. Where were you based? There are lots more photos to show you when we get back...
We tried to send you this email: not sure if it got through: 'Sabbaidee Chris
We have just left Laos and were really pleased to have visited. The people were lovely although the rural villages were clearly very poor. We travelled on boats as well as doing some testing cycling. You may have seen some of the blog pictures although we have lots more that we can show you when we get back. Where were you based? Luang Prabang was quite a contrast to the countryside and Vientiane even more so.
We are now waiting in Kuala Lumpur airport for a flight to Langkawi. We've been travelling all day but hope to meet up with Alistair, Janice's brother, and his wife this evening.
Love from Andrew
Hi Chris.
How is the quiz team doing? Any more famous victories? - Keep me up tp date. I should be much better on Asian airport names, rivers and currencies by the time I get back.
Laos was amazing time - I'm keen to hear about your experiences.
I will be glad to stop moving for 4-5 days when we get to Langkawi tonight. I think it has been about 17 or 18 different beds in the last 4 weeks.
Pass on my love to everyone. Missing you all.
