It's my last night in the Sunshine Coast and I'm feeling quite sad.I had to say goodbye to everyone at the gym today at our year end show. It was such a great time- the kids performed so well and I got a few chocolate gifts! I'm keeping in touch with everyone and if they are ever able to hire me full time, I would definately come back. It's been a wild 3 months- arriving on September 2nd for my interview, the party life at the Mooloolaba hostel, the inevitable backpacker- I've-spent-all-my-money syndrome, and now finally deciding to move on. Tomorrow I catch a train to the Gold Coast and then onwards to Melbourne where Ive got a few leads for jobs- but if all else fails, I had a good 6 months, and will head home to fix my financial situation. Now the weather here has been a little bit crazy. December 1st was the first day of summer and it came with rain and it has been raining ever since. This is the wet season here, but it has been unusually windy and cold. Now, cold here means below 20, but I'm acclimitized so I do feel cold! Brisbane recorded its coldest December day in 123 years at 18 degrees!! I'm only an hours drive north of Brisbane so we were about the same. I was wearing a sweater in the house at had to put the blankets back on the bed!! Freezing!! The Gold Coast is an hour's drive south of Brisbane and pretty much has the same weather. I don't fly to Melbourne until the 14th so I really hope there's some good weather so I can actually enjoy my time there. There's some great beaches (Surfer's Paradise is in this area) and I'm hoping to do some exploring. Speaking of exlporing, I did not get to do as much around here as I would have liked. I wanted to get up to Noosa for a visit, but atleast in the last week or so I checked out the beach at Caloundra and went to the Ginger Factory and Nutworks factory in Yandina. the Ginger Factory was interesting enough, and I had an excellent Ginger Beer- like a ginger ale, but much more ginger flavoured. Another place I really wanted to go was the Australia Zoo, Steve Irwin's place. It was quite expensive and I planned to go when I got ahead money-wise... but that never happened.. so I will just have to come back here one day!I am excited about getting back into the backpacker lifestyle to be honest. this house was nice, but it felt a little too quiet, and all the opportunities that arise when you're staying at a backpackers (jobs, connections, free food-lol) didn't happen here.
So, farewell Sunshine Coast and the next chapter of my journey begins!
