Jo Napot (Hello)from Budapest,

Arriving was a tad scarry, i.e, the train station and seedy street folks looking for money (that is putting it very nicely). We had instructions to hop a tram across the street (the directions called for a MacDonalds as the key landmark--this unfortunately was a problem because of construction in front of the train station). After numerous attempts to communicate with ticket agents (who did not want to speak English), we tripped across a hostel information center with a young woman who spoke good English. Luckly, she put us on the right track.

Once we got out of the train station our Budapest experience improved greatly. Jimmy, the man runs the hostel is originally from Chicago and gave us the run down of the city, he also put us put in a extremely nice two bedroom apartment in a great part of town. This was a wonderful surprise since we were not expecting to be in such a high-end apartment. Since the apartment was available, he allowed us to stay there for the same price as the hostel.

Our first night we ran into a strange situation. As we were getting ready to sleep there was a strange buzz--like a telephone or door bell. However, the phone does not work in this apartment, and front door bell has a distinctly different ring. This as you can imagine startled us and I (Mike) tried to play man of the house a double checked all door locks and entrance points. After speaking with Jimmy (Hostel guy), he informed us the buzz was from the main building entrance.

The architecture is breathtaking and we have walked all over.

We will keep you tuned in.

All the best,
Mike and Michelle
