Day 22

Wow! What a day! We drove 80 miles to Bryce Canyon. To enter Bryce from the west you must go through Red Rock Canyon. Red Rock id full Spectacular vivid red rock formations and cliffs. But the plumb is Bryce. The Mormons settled in this area first, and a guy by the name of Bryce established his cattle ranch at the mouth of the canyon along with his several spouses.

We had decided that we should stay at Ruby's Best Western located at the park entrance. We were in luck. They had a room for us on the ground floor. We off loaded all of our stuff. ( We kinda look like the Clampetts when we unload the car)

We were advised to go all the way to the end of the road, Rainbow Point, and take the turn out on the way back. It was great advice. Bryce is really not a canyon but it is the side of a huge plateau looking out onto the plain and mountains beyond. The Plateau is part of the great Colorado Plateau that covers southern Utah, southern Colorado, northern Arizona and northern New Mexico. All of the great canyons are part of the Colorado Plateau. The plateau is eroding away due to wind and rain and the subsequent streams that develop.

Now I need to keep this somewhat politically correct, I know I have people from almost every faith reading this blog. I am not a formally religious person. However you can not experience the awsome beauty and power that occurs when you first see Bryce. Grand Canyon is huge and powerful. Bryce defies words and pictures can not capture it. Seeing this marvelous sight is almost a religious experience and definitely an emotional one. The wind and rain are the tools of God and he is still working. Next time you feel wind and rain on your face remember, we and this earth are a work in progress.

Tomorrow we are off on Route 12 out of Bryce to Capitol Reef Canyon.

We may be out of Internet range for a couple of days.

Love to all, Shawn, Dirinda, Jan
