This morning after the best hotel breakfast we've had so far, we got on another’ Hop on Hop off’ bus to tour Berlin. It was raining again! Fortunately it’s only on and off again drizzle so it’s not really affecting us much. The highlights of the tour were Checkpoint Charlie, the Berlin Wall and the Brandenburg Gate. We also toured the Jewish museum. It surprised us a bit. Any other time we’ve been in a museum which has focussed on the Holocaust there has been a respectful silence with hushed voices and solemn manner. This museum had laughing people and loud voices as if they were just in any street scene. When we thought about it, the museum was about the whole Jewish faith, not just the Holocaust. Also, there were no graphic pictures even though the writing was specific enough. We also noticed that the history leading up to and past the Second World War went into great detail about the context of how Hitler rose to power and then how he used propaganda and a rule of terror to control everyone. Which I suppose was fair enough as anyone who spoke against him landed in a Concentration Camp.
