I was happy to leave Nha Trang as I didnt like the city too much and the weather wasn't very good to hang out on the beach. Just when I was starting to think I didn't like Vietnam very much we arrived in Hoi An, Vietnam. This is by far one of my favorite towns I have ever seen. Although slightly touristy, the town still is full of charm. The main part of town is on a river and the buildings are no more than 2 stories and seem to look as they did hundreds of years ago. Nearly every other shop is a tailor in which they are happy to custom make a pair of shorts or a shirt for $10 each, and that was before any negotiations. Anyway, we decided to pass on this enticing offer since we heard that to get things right takes several visits and adjustments. This town has no supermarket and the market the locals shop in is a feast for the eyes (and unfortunately the nose as well). Recently caught fish line the sidewalk along with flowers of every color, fruits, vegetables, and tons of other things only the Vietnamese recognize. I am so happy I brought a digital camera since this is a place in which I would have ran out of film. One of the special dishes served in town is called White Rose. Absolutely delicious. For about a $1.00, we received a plate with about 5 items that closely resembled steamed dumplings. The center had ground up shrimp ball surrounded by a rice noodle? skirt. Looks good on the plate and even better in the mouth. The sauce is supposedly a recipe that only one family knows how to make. After ordering one plate we received some a slight laughter from our waitress as we asked for another two. We stayed at the Vinh Hung Resort; www.vinhhungresort.com.
