HE SAID:
Pompeii is conveniently well placed about a 30 minute train ride from Sorrento. Once you get off the train, you immediately see the entrance. I have to admit, that I could have passed on Pompeii after seeing so many ruins in other countries on this trip already. I am so glad we went as these ruins were quit different than the others we had been to before. There was more of a feeling of a real city here. You could walk to the theater, the forum (political center), see row after row of houses, visit the bakery, etc. Many of the other ruins we went to were more spread out and to have the feeling of a town made it so much more impressive to me. Also, this was the first ruin visited that had color to it. There were remnants of frescoes on the walls and mosaics on the floor. After seeing so many other ruins, I have to admit that I was still impressed by my visit to Pompeii!
