HE SAID:

At Europcar Car Rental I declined the insurance coverage since they wanted an additional $650 for coverage.  They told me that they would have to charge the entire amount of the car to my credit card ($30,000) to cover themselves against loss.  I mentioned that I was going to reconsider renting the car from them and they told me they can call the US and sometimes they provide a lower rate for insurance.  The rate was $150.  To me it was worth paying $150 to avoid a $30k charge on my credit card.   I knew I was in trouble when I nearly opened the passenger side door to get in the car to drive.  For some reason I thought that opening the correct door would be the easiest task of working a car with the steering wheel on the opposite side.  It was very difficult getting used to this and starting out driving in the city of Dublin was crazy.  We stopped at Glendalough on the way to Kilkenny.

SHE SAID:

Getting out of Dublin was nuts, figuring out what street to turn on, what side of the road to be on, how close you were to other cars on the narrow busy streets, and if you can make a left on a red light? The Irish see it as all their road and don't really mind the lane issue.  At one point I thought we were going to return the rental car and consider the bus.  However, Adam is a trooper and stuck with it.  He was a superstar driver and we made it safely to Glendalough. Glendalough was much more what i had pictured in my own head as to what Ireland was going to be like.  Twenty shades of green rolling hills, streams, Celtic ruins, mountains, lakes, and an old graveyard.  Despite the drizzle we really liked exploring the Glendalough ruins.  Arriving in Kilkenny we knew right away that we loved this little town and were looking forward to spending a couple nights here.
