This is Jessica Rockey reporting for the Amazing Grace Transformers with Gathering News! Today was Mustache Monday so we all put on funky mustaches and masks. We walked down to the lobby and got to know people as we had on our mustaches. We got many laughs out of it and we'll definitely remember this for a long while.
After fooling around in our mustaches, we walked down to the Riverwalk and went for a nice, relaxing boat ride. We learned all about the past of the river, the city, and had a great tour guide. Everywhere we went, people waved at us, we were the celebrities! Personally I thought it was interesting how rich of a culture this city has; it truly is amazing. God shows his beautiful creations in great ways. After the river boat ride, our group trekked then to the Alamo. There we waited in a really long line, met new people, and finally got into the actual building. Once in the building, we got to see different rifles, wallets, a watch, and other various items people back then. We also saw different rooms in which they would keep the women and children for safekeeping. In that room you could see where they replicated what the children wrote and colored on the walls. It is really cool to see some of the past in person. Then, we went to a Mirror Maze and Laser Challenge. That was loads of fun for the most of us! In the Mirror Maze we were given gloves and sent into the maze to find our way out. At first, we couldn't do it and ended up back at the entrance. Once a few of us found our way out we played a little game of "Marco Polo" to help the others find their way out of the maze. Then we played the laser challenge. Here we got to choose between easy, medium, hard, and expert. Most of us felt daring and went for hard and expert levels. After doing  that a few times, we went back to the Mirror Maze and they gave us 3D glasses to add to the challenge. Once we put on the glasses it was really crazy and we were seeing double, running into each other, and just having lots of fun together! When we finished with that, we went off to find a nice dinner...we ended up at an old German restaurant.
After dinner was the Mass Event. We got there pretty early so we hung out, met new people, waited, waited, and waited some more. Once we got in it was jam-packed, people yelling, and everyone trying really hard not to get lost from each other in the crowd of people. The Skit Guys were first at the mass event. I personally love The Skit Guys and their work, so I was really excited to see them. Their skit was about the story in the Bible when Jesus asks Peter 3 times if he loves Him. The way that The Skit Guys portray the story really helps people to understand it more and it makes the experience be on a more personal level. We got to see someone that none of us had seen in a while: RACHEL!!! Of course she got a lot of hugs and hellos, plus we got to watch her dance around with the rest of the volunteers. Rachel is a great dancer I must say...I wonder where she got those great moves?? That was really great, plus we get to see her the rest of the week. The message for todays mass event was all about LOVE and how we are BELOVED. One of the speakers, Sarah, had a really great message to convey to us as a whole. Her main point was that even if we don't have a huge tragedy or disaster in our lives, they still mean something. That we are still BELOVED and God still has other ways to show us how much he really loves for and cares about us. God is going to keep on loving and caring for us whether we have a boring "Israelite" life as she put it, a Moses life, or even an Einstein life. Towards the end of the mass event they had an amazing representation of Pentecost. They had huge white and red cloths waving around, a hundred or so people waving torches, fire, and fireworks. It was truly and amazing spectacle.
After the Mass Event we had a chance for a free Remedy Drive concert! The band was really great, and there was a good number of people there. People that enjoyed listening, or the others who wanted to be right up front and center jumping for God's glory.
Once the concert was over we followed the mass of people back to the hotels and had our nightly Bible study. Tonight's Bible study was based on the Bible verse for this gathering: 1 John 4:9 which says, "This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him." This is an extremely powerful verse showing us that God not only loves us and such, but he wants to keep us in contact with him until we die. He wants us to keep in contact with others who love us so that we can share that love with others who do not know of this love. What would our life be like if only 1 individual had this love and knowledge of Christ with nobody to share that joy with? It would be really difficult to handle and frustrating that nobody would understand what you are so happy about. God works in great and mysterious ways to talk to us through His Word. He'll be beside us as we make sense of what we read about His Word, He will have the Holy Spirit to work within us as we learn, and He will have other people around us to encourage and love us as we grow.

The gals are really grabbing hold of the message of the LCMS National Youth Gathering as you can tell from the posts. The home Bible studies and discussion points are leading to some great dialog and understanding. Today is the first full day of Interest Centers, Experiential Learning Center, Exhibitors, and a Mass Event in the Alamodome. Guess what then...a post Mass just keeps getting better. Sleep is over-rated...there's time for that in eternity. Levy's hold the record (if we were keeping score) of running into old friends and family (the experience of historically living in more states apparently is helpful). Rockey's are coming in second. My joy was seeing DCE Jeff Moeller who served my church in St. Louis and now rocks with the youth in Ohio...over a decade since we've seen each other but thanks to FaceBook have been able to keep up with his ministry and family. But in the evening, out of 25 or 30,000 faces, one just stood great-niece, Jessica, dressed like the 40 others who came on a bus from the Phoenix area. Like she texted, that was CRAZY. Yup...that we would find each other in the Mass Event where the dome was PACKED. Since she attended a Transformers fireside (bonfire in the AGLC dogs, s'mores, praising God), the group gave her a warm welcome, too. Evelyn said, 'she's really grown'...yah, about a foot in 2 years! Jess texted, 'that was crazy.' That's how God is, He's crazy about us and wants us to be a family...our community is our family, we LIVE LOVE(D). AGLC members, your notes we brought with us, and emails of encouragement, are tying in with our Bible studies and Share Time perfectly and let the youth know you are praying for them....keep up the prayers and email special messages - they're important.

How exciting, a time to see people you haven't seen in years. A time to celebrate your love for the Lord and be encouraged that you are not alone in the walk. A time to encourage others, walking boldly and upright. A time to witness to the people of San Antonio that there are many young people who love the Lord and live that love. You are lights in that community. Shine brightly and glow with His love, then they will know you are Christians by your love. You are in our prayers, can't wait to hear more about your experiences when you return.
