Where I stayed
We started off the day leaving from Pastor Rockey's house and headed out in our rental car with a goal of getting out here to Camp Restore by 6 for dinner. We pretty much drove straight through until lunch, Pastor Rockey and Ava talked, Elizabeth slept, and Rachel read. Once we ate lunch we decided that we had plenty of time to take a 2 hour detour to the Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile, Alabama. We took up 2 hours of our afternoon looking around the park and touring the Battleship and Submarine
After this sight-seeing trip we drove the rest of the way straight through to Camp Restore! We arrived and were immediatly sent up to our bunk room (girls at Ruth, Pastor Rockey at Micah) and quickly got settled in so that we could be down in time for dinner at 6 o'clock. We had a typical (but good) camp meal of sloppy joes, salad, fruit, and chips. After dinner we had our tour of the facility and learned quite a few things. First of all, Camp Restore-or at least the building-used to house a school of 150 kids and after Katrina, was closed down because of the lack of kids coming back. However, soon the school the school will reopen with grades K-5. Second, we learned about our showering. Now Pastor Rockey had Elizabeth and Ava scared to death that they were community showers; however, they are private stalls and Elizabeth and Ava were able to take a huge sigh of relief! Third, we got our assignments for Thursday and Friday. Thursday we'll be working in The Big City Park here in New Orleans and working with fixing and helping to maintain the parks beauty (Fun Fact: Part of Benjamin Button was filmed there!). Friday we will be working with hurricane victims and cleaning their houses-outside and in
Tomorrow we look forward to working with all the people here at Camp Restore out in the community and around New Orleans. Thank you again for your continued prayers and support. God's Blessings and Goodnight!
