We are now in Japan. We have 'slept' in Tianjin, caught the bullet train back to Beijing, checked back into our Beijing hostel, slept, got a taxi to the airport, flown to Shanghai and then flown to Tokyo. The hoped for re-equalisation of my right ear lasted for the brief time we were back in the air but returned as we landed. We have spent a brief night in Tokyo, have caught the Nozomi Shinkansen to Kyoto and within twenty minutes should be back on track with our original itinerary, checking in to a Ryokan in Nara I reserved months ago. With any luck we will make it to the Suzuka Grand Prix first practice on Friday - I think we've earned it.
But in the last 48hours, whilst we should have been relaxing on a boat bobbing across the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea, quietly preparing ourselves for a new country, something small has been nagging at the back of my mind. Something small but persistent. Back in July, in the midst of the final packing chaos, when I got that second email from our friend pax, do I or do I not remember checking the revised sailing schedule and seeing written in red a note bene at the very bottom  of the page that mentioned something about a change in departure port? Do I remember making a note to self that when we reach Beijing I must re-check all the onward travel details? Do I remember or do I not? After all that, maybe the hangover was to blame.
In any event it wasn't my fault.
