Flag of China  , Shanghai,
Tuesday, October 5, 2010

I am sitting in transfer in Shanghai airport awaiting my second flight of the day and hoping the ascent will re-equalise my right ear drum which is currently held taught in a painful vacuum allowing me to listen to the throb of my own pulse.
I am now stuck with a persistent traveller's cold which I fear will be with me for the next ten months. It receded for a few days whilst my body dealt with the diarrhea, but once that crisis was over, the cold reared its head once more adding a chesty cough to its armory. And with my sinuses all gunked up with... gunk, the drop into Shanghai was a slow descent into an aching half-hollow world inside my head which I want to clear but at the same time am fearful of the unexpected yawn that will spring me back with an explosion as my head is filled with the sudden inrush of normal sound that settles to an endless ringing reverberation.
My only hope is that we can get back up to altitude, I can re-equalise and the descent into Tokyo can be managed with the Polo mint that Beth has just nonchalantly pulled from her pocket.
