Took an easy flight a few days ago from Cochin to Trivandrum Airport where I was picked up by a hotel rep and driven at great speeds to the resort.  Staying in a nice clean room across the river from the main restaurant/spa/yoga area.  The resort is located where the Keralan backwaters meet the sea about 8 km from Kovalam Beach.

So far I have met with the doctor and started to plan my course of treatment.  Yesterday, I had a lengthy warm oil massage followed by what I can only call a 'spice scrub' for lack of a more technical name.  I felt like a piece of meat ready for the oven afterwards!  It's supposed to stimulate the removal of the surface layer of fat...hey whatever works!  Have read three light books so far, and am starting on the Elegant Universe by Brian Green about  Super string Theory in Physics...I'm hoping that this one will keep me occupied for more than half a day!

The restaurant is outside, on the sand overlooking the sea and mouth of the river...local fisherman all around with their boats...going through the process of cleaning and hygiene under our watchful eyes (even if we try to not look they are right in front of us!).  The food is a nice variety of southern Indian veggie and Western continental.  The river is like a slow moving soup in the am...hundreds of birds flying around nibbling from the available delicacies.  The curving palm trees wave in the wind along the banks...
