Internet in Mauritius

Ok, so I'm completely pathetic here sitting in the internet cafe in beautiful Mauritius...recovering from an illness caught in my last few days of Africa! Tomorrow I'll probably go out and explore the island a bit...but for now, I am just savoring fast computer connections!
Arrived here on the 23rd after a smooth flight on Air Mauritius...you know they serve you free hot food and alcohol in Econony Class...as if I hadn't had enough Alcohol while in Africa. I think it's the frequent tourist campgrounds whose primary feature is usually the...bar...go firgure. The tourism infrastructure in Eastern and Southern Africa seems to center around high end travel and/or catering to low end travel overlanders...of which I was one!
Anyway, back to the here and now...the weather is sunny, hot and humid here but the people are really laid back and lovely. I had quite a scare yesterday morning when I repacked my bags to move hotels (that's another story) and found my money belt missing! After tearing my room apart, I basically ran down to reception to see if they could help me...with visions of no passport, money or credit cards filling my brain. The lady down at reception took one look at me and handed me the money belt that the taxi driver had returned late last night...apparently I left it in his van! I took this as a sign to be a bit more careful with my important belongings but also that someone must be looking out for me! A reassuring thought while traveling alone!
Had dinner at the Taj Mahal restaurant at the base of my hotel (where I was moved for two days because the hotel I booked was full!) and the two waiters just couldn't understand how a woman traveling alone could possibly enjoy a quiet dinner and a book...so disregarding my subtle hints...they hung around my table, made small talk, decided they were going to be my boyfriends, and offering me free tea for almost longer than I could bear! Suddenly I remembered that I had a boyfriend at home and yes, another one waiting for me in India and soon I was going to have one waiting for me in my room upstairs but luckily it didn't go that far!
I wish I could write about Mauritius here, but seriously I have not seen much outside of the area around my hotel to the internet cafe...pathetic but reality...
