Took the four wheel drive vehicles driven expertly by our amazing local drivers. The term driver not really giving them justice. What they actually did for us was drive, fix the cars, cook, set up camp, play drums, sing, find us sheesha in the middle of nowhere, clean, brew lovely Bedouin tea, smile and laugh alot and teach us silly desert games and I am sure they could have negotiated world peace had they had the time!
So anyway...leaving Siwa took the dodgiest road into the desert which most of the time disappeared under the sand leaving us to get a bit slippy slidey on the dunes. It was a blast! Got stuck almost immediately but the drivers with a little pushing help from us sorted it out within about an hour. Saw amazing sites in the desert, ate a delicious lunch under a huge rock and got to our campsite before sunset. Spent most of my time after arriving experiencing the silence and colors of the desert. Sitting in the sand I started to experience the quiet like a vibration/hum through and all around my body. The sky turned the most amazing colors outlining the shapes of the different rocks.
Had dinner and spent time singing, dancing and playing silly sand games around the fire before dragging my mat into the desert for sleeping under the stars...another moment close to perfection as shooting stars filled the night sky and the moon rising illuminated the sky.
