Arrived back in Delhi this am after an overnight train from the holy Hindu city of Varanasi. Many experiences during the trip that will stay with me for a lifetime...The Taj Mahal in Agra, eating a meal with our tour guides family in Chanderi and having henna painted on my hand and arm by his lovely daughter, the calm serenity of Panna National Park, many sunrises and sunsets with vibrant colors, the Hindu temples of Khajarahu, the cremations and holy burial ceremonies on the ghats beside the river Ganges in Varanasi, people bathing in the Ganges next to the ashes from the latest cremation being put in the river, laundry being washed, trash being dumped etc...all aspects of life happening right before your eyes in the holy river, watching flickering lights in small cups with flowers float with the current down the river...
Tomorrow I start another journey with one of my tour mates heading out to Jaisalmer, a quintessential desert city for a camel safari, tents in the desert under the night time sky, Jodhpur, the blue city, and then on to Sri Lanka for a few days of sightseeing before returning home.
The skies of Delhi are cloudy and smoggy...with intermittent rain. Winter in India is a much appreciated respite from the otherwise anticipated heat and humidity of this last part of my trip!
