After our final group dinner a few of us went out to a local Aussie Bar for drinks and hopefully pool. Our expectations were high after our great experiences and choices in Siem Reap. The rugby match was on and the bar was transfixed on all the action. A few of us had expensive small cocktails and others (the smart ones!) had beer. Fairly quickly, we decided to move on to an 'improved' location and after strolling around for about an hour ended up at this pseudo western saloon where instead of having horses in the pictures they had them on the menu!!! There was an Asian western/rock cover band, the drinks were horrible and we ended up playing another game of Bullshit. The night ended soon thereafter and we had a good laugh the next morning.
This morning a few of us went on foot to the new War Remnants Museum. A collection of US warplanes and tanks as well as other military stuff filled the exterior of the site
There were recreations of some of the jail cells used for war prisoners and gratefully an uplifting and hopeful wall display of children's painting for peace and then at the end an actual guillotine used to kill during the war.
After a quick coffee and relaxation break at a local cafe, we toured the Reuinification Palace and then a nice late lunch.
It rained last night and after a scorching morning, the breeze picked up and the weather became quite tolerable.

. Inside, the walls were filled with pictures of the horrors of war. I wasn't prepared for what an emotional experience it would be. Of course, the Americans were presented as the 'bad guys' without much explanation of the other side (the north won the war after all) Even with that in mind, the war atrocities documented by the photos were shocking. There was also a large room documenting the American as well as the International anti-war movement. There were recreations of some of the jail cells used for war prisoners and gratefully an uplifting and hopeful wall display of children's painting for peace and then at the end an actual guillotine used to kill during the war.
