Spent most of yesterday getting ready for my tour...mundane stuff. About mid afternoon decided to go see one of my travel agent's friends in Bangkok who make great custom clothing. There's quite a business here for that apparently. I met Babu at Amit Fashion House http://www.khaosanroad.com/KSRFashion/index.html and he took my measurements, we discussed style and fashion and materials...after all, it's probably time to get a proper business suit. I can't believe that I have avoided it this long! It's too bad I don't follow fashion more because I could have had anything made that I wanted. As it was, I ended up with a couple of winter coats, multiple long sleeve shirts, a Chinese style skirt and dress in lovely dark blue and silver silk, and a couple of soft cashmere wool suits!

The business was started 21 years ago and Babu and his older brother run it while their extended family is living in Bangladesh. They have three different stores in near proximity to each other each with loads of interesting fabrics.

I enjoyed pad Thai and a coffee and some water while we were getting the order finished. Then later on, after my Intrepid Travel group meeting, Babu and I went out to dinner and walked along the streets a bit. In less than 4 hours after first taking my measurements, I had my first fitting. Amazing.

As an aside, I have met so many wonderful locals on my trip through my San Francisco travel agent Bernard Gardier captaintripstravel@msn.com. My trip has been so much better as a result of his great recommendations!

I found out last night that the road to Siem Riep in Cambodia is flooded so instead of a 9 hour trip by land, we are flying. Sure to be easier but less interesting in terms of sights and adventures.

The streets are quiet in Bangkok now. It's Sunday morning and street vendors are setting up, cleaning up, getting ready for a busy day no doubt. The sights and sounds of food cooking on the hot grills of sidewalk vendors fill the air.
