We took a large propellor plane to Siem Reap yesterday afternoon. Everyone was taking pics...quite a difference from the usual jet!

The Siem Reap Airport is quite elegant and traditionally modern. Breezed through immigration and there was no customs? We took a small bus to the Freedom Hotel right outside of the downtown area. Very comfortable with lovely pool (took a quick swim last night, dodging the mosquitos). A local festival was ending last night so there were lighted candles/lanterns floating along the river and lots of crowds of people everywhere.

Had a group dinner, many beers and a couple of margaritas and then back to the hotel for a good sleep. My roommate, Elaine, and I tried out our mosquito nets, hanging them precariously from the loops of the burned out florescent bulb in the center of the ceilings over our beds. Worked like a charm and seemed like we were camping a bit!

Off to see the temples today but unsure the whole itinerary as our local guide wasn't around last night.

The weather is cool (70's), slightly humid with a breeze. Sure to warm up considerably as the day goes on.
