Spent the afternoon of the 27th at the Cendana Spa having a traditional Balinese massage, flower bath, jacuzzi and sweet ginger tea! All for less than $25USD and with tropical paradise views.

The rooms are open to the outside but shaded with a view of the lush vegetation. The weather has been temperate since I arrived not as hot as I had imagined it would be. The massage was a cross between accupressure and then deep tissue/swedish with fragrant flower oil. Then you are let to a different room with a freestanding tub filled with red and purple flower petals which you relax in for about 30 minutes. Then you are let to another room with a jacuzzi tub where you relax for another 30 minutes and enjoy ginger tea. I think the 4 Seasons has now been surpassed for sheer quality, price, atmosphere and friendly people!

I walked around Ubud afterwards and did some window shopping. Not too many tourists right now...perhaps a combination of the bombings a few years ago and that high season is just around the corner. Many locals sitting by the side of the road asking me if I want a taxi. When I answer, no, thanks, they say: "maybe tomorrow? maybe later?" I just smile and keep walking. My guide, Nyoman, asked me to describe the difference between 'maybe' and 'probably'. I told him that maybe meant 50% chance of no and 50% chance of yes and that probably meant 20% chance of no and 80% percent chance of yes. He understood! The subtleties of the English language are complicated sometimes.

I spent the evening by the pool with a drink and some spring rolls writing in my journal while a Japanese family ate dinner and their kids ran around having fun. The night air was warm with a breeze and a bit of humidity. The adjacent rice fields in the process of being harvested, lit up by the moon.
