The gloomy weather has continued, at times dumping rain on us. The interesting part of it is that the tide is up and the water is flowing into wherever it can go. I love going into a fancy palace or structure and see the water lapping under the door into the entry area. The bottom of the wooden doors fully immersed in the sea! Water can be an insidious and insistent guest...I have seen it get in to places you would not believe as part of my work.

I waded through a few inches of water in San Marco Square to get to the Basilica. There are always lines in this area or if the lines are gone then they are replaced by crowds...or people just stopping in the middle of a walkway to snap a photo totally oblivious to what is around them. After the Basilica, I stopped in at one of the fancy cafes on the square..piano playing interpretations of 70's and 80's tunes. 01-Water in the Palazzo

I had a small pizza and cappuccino for only 18 Euros! Of course, you are paying for the view and location....and believe me sitting writing post cards and in my journal, it was worth every Euro.

This evening I will attend a concert near the Academia Bridge, Vivaldi. It will be my parting activity as I leave for Florence in the morning....not a minute too soon!

Ok, so just returned from the concert. It was outstanding! Vivaldi, Mozart in one of the historic churches...just divine. We even got an encore at the end. One of the paintings behind the alter was lit up during the conert. There was a piano player, five violins, one cello and one even larger looking cello (viola?) I'm not a musician so I apologize for my lack of instrument knowledge. Had a nice dinner in the square prior to the concert and spent some time people watching and animal watching. A local cat strolled between the tables looking for an early dinner and little dogs scampered next to their owners crossing the square. It's amazing what taking a little nap in the afternoon will do for the overall attitude! I will leave Venice on a positive note afterall......
