Arrived in Venice quite late last night. Luckily we caught what must have been one of the last Alilaguna boats at around midnight! Myair, the airline I flew from Paris, was cheap but unfortunately delayed out of the Paris Orly airport.

I shared the boat with a group of women arriving in Venice to join a 12 day cruise around the area. The boat was nearly empty as we motored away from the airport and towards our destination. The sparkling lights of the island were at first far away and then became more vivid as we got closer. The speed of the boat varied depending on where we were but it never went very fast. The water was empty of most boats and until we got closer to San Marco Square, we saw very few people. There were occasional ducks on the water and birds perched on the various wood projections marking our path through the bay.

I trudged up and down steps, around corners, inside alleys all while carrying my guide book map to locate my hotel 01-Venice Hotel
01-Venice Hotel
. I finally found it about 20 minutes later. I'm staying at the Antica Locanda Al Gambero at 4687 Calle dei Fabrri. My room is a single on the 3rd floor with a small window overlooking one of the streets. It's richly decorated but VERY compact. I had to unpack just because there was no place to lay out the contents of my backpack!

I slept in and then enjoyed lunch at the restaurant below the hotel trying to figure out not only what I was going to do with my 8 days in Venice (likely to get condensed at bit) but also where I wanted to go next. I'm excited to start exploring this place and definitely glad I gave myself some time to get acquainted with it and to the Italian language and pace of life since I have french phrases floating through my head right now!

Arrivederci!
