I spent my first week in India in Pondicherry or Puducherry, same same....relaxing (yes india can be a relaxing place).  It's famous for its ashram, Sri Aurobindo Ashram.

I stayed in a guest house affiliated with the Ashram...i had a huge room, a balcony overlooking a grand garden of "positive vibrations" on the grounds and then the ocean.  It couldnt get any more peaceful.  It's no wonder i stayed a week, afterall i havent stayed more than 3 nights anywhere after more than a month so it all worked oot very well.

I went to the ashram a few nights to take part in the collective meditation which i have never done before amidst a group.  It was lovely.   I sat and watched as all the peeps came into the courtyard for the collective meditation (from the chaotic streets only a few blocks away),
feelng the calmness.... then all the lights went oot except for a candle, they ran a bell, and we sat.  I have never been in that kind of atmosphere before, amongst all that energy, THAT kind of energy, the calmness, the stillness, the silence...just being.  I was just being, nowhere but everywhere, in my own space, my own was a wonderful feeling.  After i left i was walking down the street smiling,  feeling it, whatever it is..loving it.

Then i stumbled upon this busy dining hall and wondered what it was, and found oot it too was affiliated with the ashram (as are many things in town).  So the next day i got a ticket from my guesthouse (i love how they dont tell you all this but you have to figure it oot for yourself), for 20 rupees (50 cents) and joined the dining hall for lunch and dinner at the small time allotments.  I sat in silence as you must eating my rice, some yellow curry thing with no spice (yay), bread and yogourt.  i was very happy so have stumbled upon this.  I was very happy with what the Ashram had given me in many ways...
