I have had my first full day in New Zealand.  I just flew in last night from  Sydney. I have gotten a great vibe, from the city, the people, the atmosphere.  The people are ever-so friendly, its very noticeable right away, for me anyways...people starting conversation with me in the shops, bus stops, its great.  It makes the energy around everyone that much more happier and positive.

Christchurch itself, it is a small city, aboot 350 000 peeps.  The core itself though is quite small and very easy to mooch around and get around on foot.  The city has a lovely small river flowing through it with a massive park  on one side with the botanic gardens in it.  Christchurch is the most 'british' city in nz, and you can see that with some of the architecture.  Eurpoeans first settled here in 1830s, with the native Maori's being the only people here the white peeps came and took over once again.  There are a few lovely old buildings including a Cathedral dating from 1870, where there is a big square, great for markets and people watching.

So I spent my day, shopping (for ski pants, yay!),  wandering, taking pictures, sitting on benches either in the park or by the river, taking it all i said i get a great vibe here which obviously feels great.  My day started when i found a great little cafe where the locals seem to go and was stoked to have discovered such a good find.  It was cheap and i had the most divine feta, pumpkin really is the simple things for me.  So i was set to start my day of exploring and it just continued to get better.  And i reckon it will just get better as i had south to the mountains to the ski slopes..yeehaw!
