I was more than half way to my destination and had another day and a half to get there...after not moving for 2 nights. My last night i planned just to pull over at a rest stop with only a few hrs drive left to go. And just as i was thinking it was time, would be dark in a couple hrs and i had to make dinner started absolutely pissing down! First time. I could barely see a thing even with my windshield wipers going full steam ahead. So safety being was not long before i found a stop where i could camp overnight, worked oot well. So i popped my roof up and took shelter for a few hours. I was able to make dinner before dark and a rainbow was nice enough to look upon me after the rain...i love rainbows!

The drive most of the way was repetitive, long, straight 2 lane highway with relatively brown trees and grass...wasn't right along the coast so no water and what not. I kept looking oot for kangaroos as there were warning signs everywhere. And i have yet to see any in my whole oz experience but the only ones i saw were roadkill at the side of the road. I was hoping for them to be more alive, and hopping as i'm sure they were as well, at least i didn't hit any.

The last stretch of the drive, last 4 hrs or so were stunning though, totally worth it. The landscape completely changed. Gorgeous mountains in the backdrop, very lush and green, sugercane everywhere, loads of palm trees, bananas trees..and a stretch of it went right by the coast. The coast is relatively untouched, just kms of sand and water and no one around..lovely!

My last day i stopped at Mission beach, a couple hrs before Cairns. It's a long stretch of beach again...hardly anyone in sight, rainforest in the backdrop, just untouched. It was really lovely. I took a long stroll along the beach, maybe saw 2 other peeps and made lunch at a pitstop near the shore. There wasn't a whole to do there except just enjoy the tranquility which i most certainly did. Would be harder to find that soon...
