So Lucy and I took off to Byron Bay for a couple of days with a hired car. It's just 2 hrs south, on the New South Wales though, a different state. We decided to take the scenic route, the winding two lane road amidst the countryside and towns, rather than the hustle and bustle of the motorway. I'm so glad we did...the scenery was gorgeous! It reminded me of England just a wee bit with the rolling plush green hills (queensland has been quite brown and dry), wee mountains or peaks in the backdrop. What a difference a few kms make, and a new state, it was unbelievable.

We used the scenic route to our advantage and detoured to a small town called Nimbin. Lucy wanted to check it out as i hadn't really heard of it. It's a super hippy town, laid back, with some retro trendy cafes, coffeeshops, secondhand shops, right in the middle of nowhere basically, just beautiful scenery. There was only one wee street to wander up and down, few shops to look at, and lots of friendly hippies to mingle with but then we were satisfied to move on.

Byron Bay wasn't that much farther. It's again known to be a laid back, hippy town, on a bigger scale though and maybe a bit trendier, not too big though with a few main streets and the beach right on it's doorstep. It's a good surfing spot as well but that wasn't on the to-do list this time. When we arrived, we got a late lunch then took a stroll along the beach for dusk. The beach goes on and on with white, squeaky was veryyyy windy though, sand was a blowing wasn't ideal for a nice stroll. Then took a short drive to the lighthouse which is a bit farther along the coast. The sky was fantastic, a magical pinky, purple colour, it was lovely.

The next day, we took it easy as usual...headed to the beach for some rest and relaxation. Again, the wind put a wee damper on things as sand was everywhere... we struggled to even talk as we would swallow sand everytime we opened our mouths. So we didn't go in the ocean as the we were already cool enough from the wind but the good news was that there weren't many people on the beach..i hate crowds! So we just chilled and was really nice. Then we mooched around the shops a wee bit..had lunch and toasted our last lunch together with some sparkling wine.

It was only a quick 2 day stay in byron bay as lucy was only in town for 4 1/2 days. We drove back to Brisbane, taking another scenic drive home, RD style..and then dropped Lucy off at the airport the next day in the wee hrs of morning. It was bloody brilliant to see my Rd..and so nice knowing i'll be seeing her again soon when i make it down to Tasmania..yeehaw!
