Show trip route
Last night Jingo and I and one of my roommates walked down to the river to check out 'Riverfire' that is held every year apparently...just aboot a 15 min walk. Grabbed some beer and a kebab and watched the half hour show of fireworks amongst the brisbane skyline. It's a really lovely skyline actually, first time i have seen the city at night...think i need to get out more. Then there was some crazy fast jet that flew over and dumped some fuel for the amazing visual effect of flames coming out of the plane, it was a bit anticlimatic and a waste of fuel if you ask me
Then last weekend Rick got a bunch of his friends together and we all got a deal and did the Story Bridge climb...Rick as our tour guide as he works there. It's the oldest and largest bridge that crosses the river. So you get all your gear on (safety first), they strap you to the bridge and you walk up the stairs to the highest point atop the bridge...get a great view of the city once again and Rick's lovely commentary and jokes. Then we proceeded to the story bridge hotel to partake in some beverage drinking afterwards. It was a lovely night..met some new people and just had a laugh. I'm not sure what's going on here but i have met so many bloody canadians, it's ridiculous! No where on my travels have i met so many, actually it seemed before here, i would never meet Canadians which is good as i already have lots of experience with the canucks, nice to spice it up with different natinalities. Here though...i have met 6 or 7 already..it's like we're taking over, even though it's so bloody far away...
Wednesday Rick and I went to Dreamworld, an amusement park on the gold coast (aboot an hr away) with a Canadian chick from my work. He had free tickets so lovely...it made the headache and overall dizziness that i got after the rides all worthwhile
Last sunday, after a shortened day of work (which worked out well as i think i was still half drunk)...we were able to have 'family fun day' again. The four of us went to the Powerhouse, a venue that has a bit of everything - cafe, music, exhibits, gallery, theatre, etc...as i wanted to see a photo exhibit there. Then after exerting all that energy, we plopped down in a park and chilled and ate and took in the lovely weather. Another few weeks here and it'll be scorching i reckon.
So everything is going well...still working most days, still have 2 jobs, trying to sort which one will suit best still. It's certainly nice to see money actually going into my new bank account as for the first few weeks, it resting at zero. And i have to say getting a bank account here in Aus was sooooo easy. In the UK, it was a real struggle..needed a job first but needed a bank acct to get a job and i needed someone to vouch for me, blah, blah. But here, just needed a passport, amazing!
I still have to venture out more to experience Brisbane for what it really is, whatever that is...baby steps though. I seem to get stuck in my wee neighbourhood/village as i still have no idea where a lot of things are. There's a park across the street from my house with a basketball court, a bottle shop down the hill, one of my jobs down the hill and some shops so it's obvious why i have problems venturing out. It's amazing how quickly we (meaning me) get accustomed to our surroundings and get comfrotable with what me know and don't take the time or energy to do more... but i'm gonna!! Don't fret none...just please hold...
